Shaken, Not Moved

Image
Shaken, Not Moved by Amelia   Ott      I sit there unyielding; The wind blows soft and smooth. And although it leaves me trembling, I'm shaken, not moved. Rain pounds my head; Some leaves are removed. And though it leaves me dripping, I'm shaken, not moved. The wind now blows stronger, Though through it I have proved That I cannot be beaten. I'm shaken, not moved. The sky growls in thunder, My confidence is disproved. As lightning pierces my side, I'm shaken, and moved. I lay here now thinking, Of all I've been through, I guess sometimes you're shaken, And sometimes you're moved. -Amelia

Book Review: Glitch

Image
Glitch is an amazing book about two young time-travelers in training and how they end up saving their academy and consequently, the world. With exciting action and compelling mysteries, this book is sure to keep you turning pages.               Regan Fitz thought Eliot Mason was an annoying know-it-all, and he thought Regen was a stuck up princess. But when an unusual letter threatens to destroy both of their futures, will they find a way to work together to preserve past events? Or will they and many others die in the process?     This is a great book that I would recommend to anyone. This is the first book by Laura Martin that I've read. I've seen great reviews of another one of her books called Float that seems to be popular, so if you like this book, you might like her other one too.      There are several reasons why I like this book. First of all, I love the aspect of mystery it gives at the beginning. After one of the main characters, Regan, finds

The House

Image
The House by Amelia Ott When I was first made, In me, a couple stayed. Then before I knew, I watched as their family grew. I witnessed a baby's first steps, As it laughed, and as it wept. I was shelter during a hurricane. I've withstood wind, and I've encountered rain. I've seen happiness, and I've seen grief. I've hosted streamers, and I've hosted wreaths. I watched as the couple grew old, And soon enough, I was sold.  And though it grieves me to this day, As I watched that couple drive away, And though they left me all alone, I'll wait for another to call me home. -Amelia

Book Review: Little Women

Image
Little Women is a lovely fictional story about four sisters and their different experiences in their lives. As you read about  the life of the March family, you'll discover the hardships, joy, grief, love, and laughter the sisters encountered as they lived life as "little women."     There are plenty of difficulties in the March sisters' lives, with their father at war, and not enough money; even if it's just to buy Christmas presents. Despite these obstacles, there are good things too, like singing hymns, and putting on Christmas plays. The March sisters; Meg, Joe, Beth, and Amy; each have their own faults whether it's being selfish, or caring too much about her looks, but by following their "guidebooks" (the Bible) they grow in love and faith, learning all the while how to be good, and faithful  "little women."     This is a very good book that I would definitely recommend reading. Before reading this book though, it's good

Have you Ever Wondered  by Amelia Ott and Audrey Arnold Have you ever wondered, As you lay in bed at night, If a monster was waiting To give you a fright? Have you ever wondered, what might lie underneath, How big, how scary, Or how many teeth? Have you ever wondered What it eats for lunch? Have you ever wondered If it would grab you to munch? Book Review: Kisses from Katie

Image
"Kisses from Katie" is an amazing story about a nineteen-year-old missionary that moves to Uganda to help children who are in desperate need of love and care. While caring for hundreds of children every day, she finds fourteen that she decides to adopt. Follow Katie along as she deals with the hardships and joys of living in "the pearl of Africa."     Katie Davis, at the age of eighteen, decided to go on a missions trip to Uganda, while she was there,  she fell in love with the country. Many people around her probably thought she was crazy when she decided to move there to become a Kindergarten teacher. The more time Katie lived in Uganda though, the less she wanted to go back to the US. But why? Why would she leave all her family and friends in the comfort of  Tennessee to live in a country where hardly anyone spoke the same language, many starved to death, and where she had to sleep underneath mosqu

The Stump

Image
The Stump by Amelia Ott I used to be so tall. Now I am quite small. Birds used to land atop my head. Now all my leaves are gone and dead. Critters used to call me home, But now I am all alone. There are no green things to be found. I now lay huddled, close to the ground. I used to host a hive of bees, Along with many other trees. Now all the bees have moved away; To find another tree to stay. I used to dance along with the wind, I used to gracefully bow and bend. Now I just sit here all day long, Without my leaves' rustling song. So I'll remember the days that used to be, When I was a tall and mighty tree. -Amelia

Book Review: God's Smuggler

Image
"God's Smuggler" is a wonderful autobiography about Brother Andrew, a man who risked everything as he willingly and faithfully delivered Bibles to communist countries.      As a young boy,  Andrew, (more commonly called Andy at that time) lived in a small house with many siblings. They lived in a town in Holland where they, amongst many others, were poor. The war started when Andrew was a young boy. He had always been courageous, so it wasn't a surprise that he decided to join the army. But, as his life in the army proceeded, he grew farther and farther from God. It wasn't until, lying on a hospital bed, he read the Bible and was reformed. As life went on,  Andrew eventually became a missionary to communist countries, or, the "iron curtain."     A lot of people say that God's Smuggler is a thriller. Parts of the book may indicate thriller, but it is my personal opinion that it is not. While I don't think it is a thriller, I do think it is

Book Review: Anne of Greene Gables

Image
"Anne of Green Gables" is a great classic about a young orphan named Anne. Anne is very imaginative and has the habit of sucking people in to her imaginary world. She has lots of interesting adventures, most of which teach her some valuable lessons. You'll laugh and cry along with Anne as she finds out what it's like to have a real home.       Marilla and Matthew Cuthbert decided to adopt an orphan, more specifically a boy; a nice sturdy one to help work out in the fields and such. Instead, they got a girl, a talkative, daydreaming redheaded girl. But over time, not only the Cuthberts, but all of Green Gables grew fond of Anne and her lively, passionate spirit.     I loved this book for three reasons. The first reason is because of how surprisingly captivating the book was. When I first picked up the book, I did not expect that I would have a hard time putting it down, yet I was pleasantly surprised. I found that while I was busy I couldn't wait unt
