The House
The House by Amelia Ott When I was first made, In me, a couple stayed. Then before I knew, I watched as their family grew. I witnessed a baby's first steps, As it laughed, and as it wept. I was shelter during a hurricane. I've withstood wind, and I've encountered rain. I've seen happiness, and I've seen grief. I've hosted streamers, and I've hosted wreaths. I watched as the couple grew old, And soon enough, I was sold. And though it grieves me to this day, As I watched that couple drive away, And though they left me all alone, I'll wait for another to call me home. -Amelia
